What is ppm?
The word "ppm" is derived from lat. per mille, which means "a thousand." This word is often used in relation to alcohol. Consider in more detail what is ppm.
Promille - 1/1000 share, 1/10 percent, is used to express the number of one thousandth of a substance as a whole. To refer to ppm, the знак sign is used.
There are certain quantities (fractions) that are traditionally measured in ppm, for example, the salinity of water. If they say that the salinity of water is 9%, then we can conclude that 9 grams of salt is contained in 1 kilogram of water.
Also in ppm measure the level of alcohol in the blood. This procedure is used in forensic medicine. The alcohol content in this case involves the concentration of ethanol, which is just expressed in ppm. For example, if they say that the concentration of alcohol in the blood is 1.5 ppm, they mean that a liter of this person’s blood contains 1.5 milliliters of ethanol.
