The 40th Anniversary World Economic Forum (WEF) opens on January 27 in Davos.
Since the foundation of the organization in 1971, its main event has been the holding of annual meetings at the end of January, at which representatives of the world political and business community in an informal setting discuss the state and problems of the development of global economic relations.
This year, the Davos Forum will be held under the motto "Improve the world situation: rethink, transform, rebuild." On this basis, the main areas of discussion have been identified, including the growth of public debt, reduction of tax revenues in many regions of the planet and the possibility of the onset of the second phase of the global economic crisis will take the lead. Also among the main items on the agenda are such issues as problems of production and consumption, global energy security, prospects for the development of international business relations. However, it is known that the problems of individual companies and economies will practically not be considered. In total, the organizers have planned about 200 thematic meetings and seminars.
From January 27 to January 31, about 2,5 thousand representatives from more than 50 countries of the world, including 30 heads of state, 12 heads of national banks and 1,4 thousand top managers of leading companies in the world, will attend the meeting. The right to open the anniversary forum in Davos was granted to French President Nicolas Sarkozy. This year the Russian delegation is headed by Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin. Representatives of the domestic business elite are expected to attend: co-owner of Rusal, the chairman of the board of directors of Severstal, the head of the Rosnano corporation and other famous people.
