Sequential gearbox. Principle of operation, structural features
Sellers of new cars in the salons are not tryinguse such a frightening term as the "sequential gearbox." But if you do not go into details, then for the user it can be various variations of the automatic transmission with certain features of operation (switching is carried out sequentially).
In fact, the sequential box is an ICIE witha separate mechanism that automatically controls the clutch. That is, as in the classic "automatic", in this case there will be 2 pedals in the car, but the driver switches the gears himself. In some situations, for the convenience of the driver, they switch automatically.

The fact is that the repair of automatic boxesgenerally quite expensive, and sequential in this - not an exception. And it goes out of order quite easily - it can be enough to re-load it several times and then you have to change the units of the unit.
That is, it turns out that the sequential boxgears - a thing quite fragile and capricious. As for the positive moments of using this unit, they are also enough. Firstly, it is the lack of the need to squeeze the clutch, which is an indisputable advantage with respect to "mechanics". Secondly, the economy is relative to the classic "machine". Thirdly, saving time (which is very important in various races and competitions, for which it was invented). Sequential gearbox with proper operation allows to reduce fuel consumption to the level of cars with manual transmission and even lower. And, in the end, if someone buys such cars, therefore, they are in demand. And they get them more and more often.
The principle of work for a similar design is similara conventional mechanical box, but the clutch is controlled not by the driver, but by the computer. Due to this, the parts wear out much less. After all, maximum wear occurs when it is not fully squeezed when switching.
In addition, the mechanism of the box itself is equipped with a hydraulic system. This, on the one hand, makes operation more comfortable, and on the other hand it plays an important role in the rise in the cost of the unit and its repair.
