When choosing a navigator, it is important to consider where and how you plan to use it. If the module on the basis of which the device operates is not so important within a large city (all systems operate within the metropolis), then on country walks or during travels it is desirable to know for sure that the device will not refuse to work at the crucial moment.

Accuracy and reliability of the receiver
The main component of the navigator is a special chip-receiver of data transmitted by satellites in near-Earth orbit. Currently there are 2 positioning systems in operation: the American GPS (Global Positioning System) and the Russian GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System).Navigators can interact with one of these systems, since both of them are primarily military developments and belong to the ministries of defense of their countries.
In general, the receiver's operation consists in registering a signal sent by satellites to Earth with a frequency of about 1000 times per second. For ease of use of the device, it is important that the chip works efficiently, accurately determining the coordinates. Choosing a navigator for yourself, look in the instructions or ask the seller what is the time for a “cold start” (getting first readings) and a “warm start” (secondary positioning). The smaller the specified parameters, the faster the device operates, updating the measurement results, and therefore, more accurately determining your location.

You will quickly get to the place if the maps loaded into your device will be drawn up as accurately as possible, taking into account the change of the names of settlements, streets, etc.Find out the date of publication of the program used by a particular model, check the operation of the device by finding objects you know. Speed and accuracy of data processing
The speed of data processing depends on the processor used in the model you like. By the way, most of the more or less well-known manufacturers in this area are almost equivalent: the devices work efficiently and quickly, providing you with accurate results.
When selecting, specify the frequency of data updates. It can vary from 10 to 1 times per second. Naturally, the more often an update occurs, the more accurate and faster you get readings.

- Screen size. The more this indicator, the easier it will be to use the interface of the device, because most devices today are equipped with a touch screen.
- The ability to identify congestion on the road or, more simply, "traffic jams".Navigator, which does not define “traffic jams” in the city, is inconvenient to use, but it is suitable for driving on the highway during country trips. Devices recording "traffic jams" use a Bluetooth or GPRS module. The first ones are inferior to the second, because they load data longer, and in order to get started they need to turn on the “traffic jams” function every time. The latter usually have a permanent connection to the network, so the readings give out faster.
- Additional functions. Modern navigators are equipped with voice alerts, the ability to install a memory card of large volumes, USB-sockets, etc. Many devices support multimedia, which makes it possible to watch movies and videos. The navigators have built-in functions of an alarm clock, organizer, calendar, notebook, and this allows you to use the device as a portable computer. Of course, additional functions affect the cost of the device, so choose what you really need.
